Congratulations to our 2018 Lions Pride winners. The players were recognised at a special dinner with our Lions Pride partners, Tugun Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank, on Friday at the Trade Training Centre at Palm Beach Currumbin State High. Each Lions Pride winner was presented with a $100 Bendigo Bank account. Each winner also received a trophy crafted by the members of the Woodwork and Craft Club at the Men's Shed, Currumbin. Every Lion's Pride winner also received a yellow jersey. The yellow jersey symbolises the values of Lion's Pride and is handed over each week at training to a new player who displays these values. Also recognised on the night were our players who have been awarded Optima Awards from PBC State High for their hours of community service contributing to our club. Our Under 16s celebrated their successful 2018 season at their presentation on Saturday before a packed room of coaches, family and supporters.
2018 was a highly successful season with the Under 16 Division 1 team winning the 2018 premiership, defeating Southport 11.10-76 to 7.3-45 at Ormeau Sports Park. Our Under 16 Division 2 team fought their way through to the grand final, ultimately going down to the combined forces of Pacific Pines and Surfers Paradise. PBCJAFC applauds every one of our Under 16 players for their efforts this season. Congratulations to all award winners. From the Under 14 ranks, Jed Walter was named Club Footballer of the Year. The prestigious club award rounds out a stellar season for Jed who also took out the AFL Gold Coast Juniors Footballer of the Year, polling the most votes of any player in any division in the league. Jed was also awarded AFL Gold Coast Juniors U14 Best and Fairest at the league's awards night. Last night he also collected Under 14 Division 1 Best and Fairest. Every night on the Gold Coast, approximately 750 young people are homeless and living on the streets. That’s why the Gold Coast SUNS and Metricon Stadium host this event and with all funds raised going to the supporting Gold Coast Youth Service, Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth Inc. and YHES House charities to combat homelessness on Gold Coast streets. This year’s event will be jam-packed full of entertainment for the whole family, including kids' activities, movies on screen and interactive inflatables. Suns players Jack Martin #4, Jack Bowes #29, Callum Ah Chee #13 and former Palmy Lion Jacob Dawson #45 spent a couple of hours at Salk Oval, taking time to talk with each of our teams at training, answer questions, get in amongst some of the training drills, and - of course- signing a few autographs. Our players took the chance to ask their favourite Suns questions ranging from tips on the skills junior players need to practice, how far and fast the players could run, and why they took up footy in the first place.
